### 📌 Overview

Dusk FSM allows you to **import structured data directly into Forms** using CSV or Excel files. This capability is designed to help teams quickly digitize existing records and scale their use of Forms without manual re entry.

Importing data into Forms is commonly used to:

* Load historical inspection or audit records
* Populate asset registers
* Migrate data from legacy systems
* Pre fill reference data used in field work

All Form imports occur **after a Form has been created** and use the Dusk FSM data import engine to map file columns to Form fields.

Importing data into Forms is ideal when you already have structured data stored outside Dusk FSM.

* Moving inspection history from spreadsheets into Dusk FSM
* Importing assets or locations for immediate field use

* Seeding Forms with baseline reference data

If data is captured live by field staff, manual entry through the mobile app is recommended instead.

1. Create and save your Form in Dusk FSM
2. Export the Form structure as a CSV template

4. Import the file and map columns to Form fields

Once imported, the data behaves exactly like data captured in the field.

### ⚠️ Important Import Considerations

Before importing data into a Form, it is important to understand a few limitations.

#### Field Type Compatibility

Some Form field types are designed for **manual field entry only** and do not support imports, including:

* Dependencies (conditional logic fields)
* Drop Down Lists

These fields can exist in the Form but will not accept imported values.

#### Field Naming Rules

* All Form field names must be **unique**
* Duplicate field names will cause imports to fail, even if field types differ
* Avoid special characters in field names and CSV column headers
