## How Do the Staff Business Rules Work in Dusk FSM?

The **Staff Business Rules** feature in Dusk FSM intelligently recommends the best available staff member for a job, based on a combination of scheduling criteria. This streamlines resource allocation and helps ensure the right people are assigned to the right jobs, saving time and improving field efficiency.

### ⚙️ What Criteria Are Used to Recommend Staff?

Dusk FSM applies real-time business rules across the following parameters:

* **Skills** – Ensures required certifications or experience are matched.
* **Region** – Filters staff by geographical location or assigned region.
* **Shift Availability** – Confirms staff are rostered on during the job time window.
* **Staff Capacity** – Checks how much workload each team member already has.
* **Staff Enabled** – Only includes users who are active and available in the system.

### 🧠 Where to Use Staff Recommendations

You can use Staff Business Rules anywhere scheduling happens, including:

* **Scheduling Jobs**
* **Calendar View**
* **Gantt View**

### ✨ How to Use the Smart Recommendation Tool

1. Navigate to your desired scheduling screen (Calendar, Gantt, or Job).

2. Click **Assign**, then locate and click the **magic wand icon** next to the Staff label.

3. A panel opens with two sections:

* **Recommended** – Staff who best match the job, listed in order of suitability.
   * **Other Staff Available** – Staff who meet partial criteria, but are less suitable for this job.

4. Hover over the icons to see staff names. An orange triangle indicates a warning.

5. Click the **person icon** to assign your preferred staff member.

This same recommendation tool is also available from the **green wand button** on the **Work Summary** screen. Selecting it shows **Recommended Staff and Contractors** for the job.

The wand appears for jobs in both **Unassigned** and **Scheduled** status.
Scheduled status is the stage where work has been planned, but not yet dispatched to the field. The Scheduled status label can be renamed by your organisation. More detail is included in the FAQ below.
